VLA Photography & Videography

Tell us a little about yourself?

We established VLA in 2010 and through photography and film we have told the stories of over 400 weddings. We both have Bachelor of Arts Degrees with honours in photography and have 35 years combined experience.

We have a baby boy called Will and a dog called Myrtle. We love Family days, world exploring, dog walking, 1975, Paul Simon + Bon Iver listening, home decorating, restaurant selecting, Netflix binging and Ikea.

How would you describe your working style? Will you have an assistant on the day?

Our working style is personable, relaxed and fun, whilst being calm and unobtrusive. Couples are often overwhelmed but what we have captured during their wedding day, whilst being so informal.

With our professional qualifications and experience of photographing and filming weddings we capture all the filming ourselves.

What type of equipment do you use?

We use Canon and Sony cameras and lenses. For wedding videography we use Sony A7SIII cameras. Sony, Rode and Tascam audio devices, DJI drone/gimbals and Aputure lighting.

Do you shoot in HD? What format with the final version be in?

We shoot in 4K and HD, dependent on clients’ request.

What parts of the day do you usually capture?

The entire day.

How long does it take you to edit?

With videography 5 days. We are perfectionists.

How long will the final version usually arrive?

Depending on the time of year between 2-8 weeks to receive your final video.

What information do you need from the couple before the wedding day?

We have created a booking form that highlights information regarding the wedding day. It gives couples the opportunity to educate us in terms of their style and must have photographs. It also asks for timings, venue locations and names. We have been praised by Towergate Camerasure for our in depth client compatibility.

What are your favourite trends?

Progression is our favourite trend. We always love educating ourselves, pushing boundaries, whilst knowing what’s timeless.

What are you expecting to see become more mainstream/more common in the next year or two?

Regarding the style of videography and photography we’re not seeing that there will be much change or more mainstream styles. We believe social media is where the change will be. Wedding media will be more ‘bite sized’ and accessible. Short videos will be extremely popular.

Testimonial

“The video is absolutely incredible. We really have no words, and whatever we say will never do it justice. What I will say is that we both cried – as did many of our family and friends. Everyone we have shown it to has said what an amazing job you did of capturing the pure happiness and joy of the day. It has brought all of the wonderful memories back and every time we watch it, it’s like we are living it all over again. I have, personally, probably watched the video about 100 times, and each time I smile like it’s the first time I’m watching it. And what an amazing song you picked to go with it! We have vowed to watch it every anniversary. You’re incredibly talented and we truly couldn’t have asked for anything more. Thank you so much again for everything, it was an absolute pleasure to work with you both and you made us feel so at ease (given we both hate having our photos taken).”
