In 1944, actors Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh, Hollywood’s golden couple, visited Notley in search of a new home after losing theirs in the Blitz. They fell for its quiet beauty, riverside setting and sense of escape. The rest is history.

The bedrooms

Notley Abbey has hosted some remarkable guests over the years – from Henry VIII to Marilyn Monroe. It’s one of the more unusual wedding venues, in all of the best ways.

As you climb the main staircase beneath a striking chandelier, it’s hard not to imagine the stories these walls could tell.

Notley Abbey has nine beautifully appointed bedrooms available for you and your guests, including a luxurious wedding suite. As an exclusive use venue, these are strictly yours for the night, making it a true house party with history, followed by a relaxed breakfast the next morning to relive it all, together.
